There are a lot of factors that go into project planning, and we would like to share them with you so that you’re a well-informed customer.

Your budget is typically the biggest factor in deciding what projects you can accomplish this year. It’s important to keep in mind both your capital budget and your reserve budget. By making project planning decisions earlier, you can also get a lot more bang for your buck. Why is this? We have all felt the cost of inflation in the last few years. Material costs are up 30% from last year and we don’t see the trend slowing down. Creating contracts allows us to purchase these materials now, saving you money.

Timing is another key factor. If you want an outdoor patio and fire pit in time for summer, there are a lot of steps to take. Depending on your vision, designs can take up to a month or more to complete. If permits are required, it can take even longer. Starting to think about these projects over winter allows these upfront things to happen now, allowing them to be ready to go come spring.

Planning now also helps with acquiring the materials to complete the job. As demand for materials continues to rise, securing materials for jobs is becoming more and more difficult. Trees, for example, are dug during two seasons. Planning now allows us to ensure you get the trees you want. We can also get better quality trees when we go straight to the farms. Substitutions are readily available, but we like to compete the project exactly how it was envisioned with the highest quality materials.
A common misconception that we’ve run into is that once a contract is signed, the work will begin immediately. At times our backlog for new projects can run as long as eight weeks. Getting your project into our backlog over the winter allows you to be at the front of the list to your job started earlier.
